HR Adviser

Mark Thompson Transport are looking for a HR Adviser to join their team. It will be your role as HR Adviser to deliver the HR department mission, vision and values by providing proactive, flexible HR support to all employees, whilst driving best practice to comply with all company procedures, documented polices and employment legislation. You will provide HR support and advise for up to 300 employees and managers, over no more than three sites with no direct reports. You will be providing additional support to another depot within the Kinaxia group

Roles & Responsibilities of the HR Adviser:
  • Provide day to day support and advise to employees and managers on all HR related issues by referring to current policies and procedures.
  • Implement and embed any new group HR policies and procedures
  • Support departmental mangers with staffing levels through recruitment
  • Fully utilise the HR system by updating employee information, supporting employees and managers with its usage, including any workflows, to ensure GDPR compliance and the production of relevant and current statistical data;
  • Support managers with employee development through the completion of competency assessments, the creation of personal development plans and identification of training needs
  • Support managers with identifying leaver reasons through organising exit interviews and assisting senior managers with any necessary follow up actions and integrating new starters into the business by coordinating the onboarding process to safeguard compliance and to improve retention.
  • Encourage managers to recruit apprentices where appropriate and attend local schools and college recruitment fairs and events to promote the Company and Group within the local community and to address skill shortages and improve succession plans
  • Support the Company with managing the expectations of weekly paid staff who are driven by short term interests to maintain their engagement.

  • Promote employee engagement throughout the employee life cycle to encourage the cultural change required to meet the evolving needs of the Group.
Required Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience:
  • Continued up to date knowledge of employment legislation and ACAS best practice
  • HR Management systems, preferably Cascade HR
  • Transport & Warehousing industry is desirable
  • Training and Development to include creating PDP’s, skills gap analysis, training delivery and competency frameworks
  • Completed or studying towards a HR Qualification is desirable.
  • Train the Trainer is desirable
  • Mentoring & Coaching is desirable
  • Presentation skills to include the delivery of internal HR training sessions
  • Self-confidence and problem solving to build persuasive arguments based on logic, data and the objective merits of the situation
  • Communication skills to anticipate and respond to the feelings, needs and concerns of others
  • Patience to perform effectively in difficult circumstances
  • Recruitment and Selection, preferably using competency-based questions
